Ugandans in tourism are losing jobs- Amos Wekesa

A recent meeting between the president and key stakeholders in the tourism sector saw pertinent issues raised. Amos Wekesa, a re-known tourism enthusiast and entrepreneur used the chance to speak up about the impact of the coronavirus on the sector. Wekesa asked the President why the tourism sector was still being taxed yet they weren’t working as much. This he later would explain once the President had directed the tourism officials to look into more flexible ways to deal with the issue.

Coronavirus: Ugandan tests positive in Rwanda, cases increase across the border

A Ugandan, 22 years of age, who arrived in Rwanda from London on March 15, has been named among the five coronavirus cases confirmed in Rwanda.  In reaction, Rwanda a country that borders Uganda to the west has since cancelled large public gatherings like concerts, rallies, trade fairs and sports, and intensified hand washing.

Corona virus reaches Kenya

Yesterday, Thursday the 12th day of March, Kenya, a country that borders Uganda to the east got it’s much dreaded first corona virus case. Speaking to press, Mutahi Kagwe, Kenya's health minister said the patient had been diagnosed at the government's national influenza centre laboratory after travelling home via London on March 5.

As the Corona virus, largely burdening the Republic of China brings the world to its knees, Uganda’s President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni had words. Speaking at a recent roundtable talk with different stakeholders, he said that Uganda would be taking even more strict precautions and emphasized why he hates diseases. “There is no shortcut, because if we are not strict, if we don’t stop these people who are having rampant sickness…” he said before quickly taking to a narration as to why his government was doing this. “Because some people were briefing me yesterday how it started in Italy.”

Corona virus: 14 day isolation or return to your country

Like the rest of the world is, Uganda has gone on full alert of the deadly Corona virus. A press release by the Uganda Tourism Board in respect to the health ministry’s precautions affirms this. In the statement, the section dubbed, Interventions in Uganda & travel recommendations by the Ministry of Health, showed the plan. Though Uganda was yet to have a single case, UTB noted that this has greatly affected the global tourism and travel industry, and has put a limitation on travel to and from various countries.
